The Massachusetts High School Football Coaches Association announced its 2007 All-State team yesterday, with Buckingham Browne & Nichols the only school placing more than one player on the Super 26.
The team includes running back Jordan Todman (Dartmouth) and quarterback Tim Rich (Chelmsford), Globe Players of the Year in Divisions 1 and 1A, respectively. Todman led the Indians to the Super Bowl, scoring three touchdowns in a 36-28 overtime loss to Everett in the championship game, and totaling 35 touchdowns and 1,970 yards rushing for the season. Todman ran for 5,779 career yards to finish as the second all-time leading rusher in Massachusetts history.
Rich completed 65 percent of his passes for more than 2,000 yards and 22 touchdowns. He also rushed for 750 yards and eight scores.
Other offensive skill-position players on the team are quarterbacks Pat Donnelly (Longmeadow) and Mike Pierce (Andover), running backs Isaac Johnson (Everett) and Bobby Tarr (Bishop Fenwick), and wide receivers Mike Dwyer (Woburn) and Mark Hogan (Lincoln-Sudbury).
Hogan was named Dual County League Offensive Player of the Year after scoring 13 touchdowns and compiling more than 1,300 all-purpose yards. Johnson, who ran for 28 touchdowns in 2007, will play for Boston College next season. Tarr's 2,500 yards rushing pushed his career total to 5,583, third in state history.
The offensive line, led by Masconomet's Teddy Reed - who also captains the Chieftains' basketball and lacrosse teams - also includes Mike Geschwind (Westfield), Nick Halloran (BB&N), Andrew Jameson (Brockton), and Walter McCarthy (Milton Academy).
On the other side of the ball, Gloucester's Anthony Enderle anchors a powerful defensive line that includes Brian Palangi (Swampscott), and Nico Papas (BB&N). BC High's Tom Duffy, who was named Catholic Conference MVP for his play at linebacker and running back, heads a versatile linebacker corps that includes Chris Setian (East Longmeadow), Mike Abany (Mansfield), Matthew Evans (Thayer Academy), and Shawn Loiseau (Shrewsbury).
Matthew Bellomo (Holliston), who had six interceptions, leads the defensive backfield, which also includes Josh Carter (Marlborough), Chris Constantine (Hingham), Jeremy Kimber (Fitchburg), and Nick Schwieger (Bishop Feehan).
Greater Haverhill Tournament: Haverhill defeated Timberlane (N.H.), 68-64, in the title game behind 18 points from Charlie Roche and 16 from Javier Bristol.
Nashoba Valley Tournament: In the Division 2 championship, junior Cornelius Moore had 40 points, 10 assists, and 5 steals, as Lowell Catholic defeated Whittier, 71-69. In the Division 1 championship, Bishop Fenwick defeated Nashoba Tech, 68-60, behind Mike Clifford's double-double (28 points, 15 rebounds).
Chelsea Tournament : Sophomore guard Cesar Castro (22 points, 8 assists) and senior forward Hamsa Abdul (19 points, 11 rebounds) sparked Chelsea to an 80-61 victory over Saugus.
Somerville Holiday Hoop Fest: Sophomore Alexis Peters's 21 points sparked Fontbonne to a 52-42 victory over Somerville in the championship game.
Nonleague: Junior captain Jackie Kelley contributed 16 points and Matara McCarron dropped in 11 as Matignon beat Arlington, 50-39 . . . Lindsay Shelton contributed 9 points and nine rebounds as Wayland beat Martha's Vineyard, 46-37.
Merrimack Valley: Josue Henriquez won the 50-yard hurdles in 6.9 seconds and Thiomar Veras needed only 5.6 seconds to finish the 50-yard dash to lift Methuen to a 52-34 win over visiting Billerica.
Cape Ann Savings Bank Tourney: Andrew Fulford and Jeremy Fanning each scored twice, and Bradley Robertson stopped 26 shots as Gloucester beat Martha's Vineyard, 4-1, in the championship game.
